Why I’m Doing Magic

I’ve been posting about me picking up my magic again, but I haven’t really explained at all why I’m doing it. First, what I need to do is define what magic is to me, and what it is to other people. I actually had a discussion today about what magic is.

Some people say that magic is just a whole lot of sleight of hand. True. But because the sleight is quicker than the eye, magic seems to happen right in front of you. And that is exactly where the magic lies…in the eyes of the spectator. Whether you want to believe that the magic is happening or not, that is up to you but remember…if you allow yourself to get caught up in the magic, anything in the world is possible.

Everyone believes in magic at one point in their lives. Seeing the world through the eyes of a child. Somewhere along our journey of life, we lose this ability to see everything as something new…as something magical. This is precisely why I am picking up magic again.

I love seeing the joy it brings someone. I love the fact that for even just a second, someone saw something that made them doubt reality…something that made them feel like a child. Everyone misses being little. No worries in the world, discovering something new everyday. Magic brings that to people, and I feel privileged to be able to say I bring that childhood to them.

Magic can be found in everything we see. The fact that someone can sit down and write a beautiful piece of work on a piano is magic. I challenge you to find magic that surrounds you everyday. It can be based on my definition or your own. Look for it. Find it. Notice it. Spread it.

Magic. Is. Everywhere.

Matt
